Another month is here already!  Where DOES the time go?!  I bet most of you are having some pretty derned chilly weather by now aren't cha?

brrrr ...

Looking out the window right now it is warm, clear and bright.  For a change it is also GREEN!    When the rains left, it only took about 3 days before everything started to brown up here again.  We don't have a watering system, and the City still has us on once a week water restrictions with specific alloted time.  Neither Jim nor I have disciplined ourselves to a watering cycle with some kind of mechanical watering device yet, so ... it is just always dry out there.  I think the gardening will snap me up soon to do something about that, as I will have to start watering the garden.  However, lately I have been able to just scoop rain water from buckets gathering it to water.  Haven't even had to turn on a spigot for that.    Forgot to say, we just had some more rain the past few days.    That is why things are re-greened again.

We have LOTs of things sprouted!  Kind of exciting!  But ... I will not bore you with all of that like I did last time.        Just let me say tho' that I can't wait to get them all planted in the next garden boxes to see if they 'survive' me, our weather, and our environment.  If I could, I would give you each some tomato plants!  I have a gazillion!    I just discovered our first baby pear tomato yesterday!     I hope it makes it!!  Our baby squashes didn't, but ... I think those plants were just not healthy to begin with ... originally born with disease out of the unfinished compost.    I tried to make them healthy, but to no avail.  So ... I just have to start over on the squashes.  This time with fresh SEEDS and soil!    okay ... 'nuff said 'bout that.  Moving on ....

I hope this will be a good month for each and all of you and your loved ones.  Would love to be kept posted on you and your lives from month to month or whenever the inclination grasps your heart.  I think that would be AWESOME!  Whatever good, bad and ugly you may need and/or want to share ... burdens to get off your chest ... praises ... heartwrenches ... funny happenings ... anythings and perceived nothings ... whatever  clicks from underneath those computer-key-fingers.

Our granddaughter just got her new hamster last night.  She is on a hammie-high right now.    Her last two died, one a few months after the other.  Sad.    She had them a few years.  A little time has passed now and her Mommy ordered her a different more friendly and cuddly type.  A Teddy Bear Hammie.  He is adorable!  Dark brown/black.  Sweeeet!  We girls all agreed to Gus-Gus for his name.  So Gus-Gus it is.  I am sure that Gus-Gus is all Trini is thinking about in school today.     I am hoping that Gus-Gus will deter her determination to stop Rescuing the blasted GRUBS in our garden!

We are having some Router Box issues with AT&T right now, so if you have any Shovel glitches from time to time on the site, you will know why.  The new box will not be here until next week, if it does not come in the mail today.  Always SOME-thing needs replaced, upgraded or repaired!  sheeeeesh already!

We survived Halloween.  How about you?  I hate it when all that candy is around, so cruelly tempting me beyond my self-control!  eeeeeeeechtch        The kids are sooo adorable who come to our door!  Our daughter put up a mechanical spider on our door, and a spider web to boot, so that when I opened the door to give out the sweets, it would start to climb and its eyes would light up in this eerie red.  It actually SCARED so many children this year.    I felt kinda bad about that, but when our neighbor came over ... an ADULT ... and she about came out of her skin ... well ... it may be evil of me, but it was fuhhhhhnny!    she laughed, too.    it just caught her off guard ... wasn't expecting it.

Our oldest daughter quit walking with Jim on weekend mornings for a while because she began a running routine with a coworker for a while.  She does AWESOME!    However, she has recently hurt her knee, so she called Jim last night and asked if they could WALK on the beach Saturday morning.    I know he is happy about that!    I hope to go, too.  Besides walking at my own pace probably waaaaaay beHIND them, I want to harvest some beached seaweed for the garden.  It is not always there, so I hope it will be this time.  Fresh morning, sea-salt air, sea breezes, cool sand beneath the feet, water rolling over the feet ... ahhhhhh .... I just hope I can make it to bed early enough tonight to take advantage of the early morning tomorrow.

It is time to go and work outside now.  Just wanted to pop in and say hello to everyone and let you know I think of you all often ... wonder how you are ... what's going on in your lives ... hoping your hearts and minds are strengthened by the remembrance, in the midst of all the dung and hardships that surround us each and all daily, that we each and all stand free and confident together as one in that wonderful, miraculous grace and freedom of Christ.

I hope that if and when you find yourself beat down, oppressed, depressed or whatever the case may be, that you remember that there are hearts and minds here to support and remind you of who you are in the Source of that miraculous NEW Life that has been given to you in and out of all His Love, Hope, Peace, Grace and Freedom.

Well....it wasn't an easy week for me.  My sister (the one I told you about who was in the fire) had a bad bout with sucidal thoughts and feelings.  It's so hard for me when that (suicide) comes up for me (I grieve for people who go through that, (I was once there myself), and I never know if I'm gonna lose another family member (like my dad) like that.   Anyhow, much of it (for her) was coming from guilt, so I shared Colossians 2:21 (?) with her,  "Once you were alienated from God because of you evil behavior, but NOW, he has reconciled you through Christ's physical death on the cross, to present you holy and blameless, and FREE from accusation...) and the burden of guilt lifted (I saw it in her countenance) and she wrote it down and took it home to meditate on.  Dave has sent her some grace resources as well.

The thing is, this gospel and transformation of our minds, the revelation and reality of hope in Christ IS the power of a changed life!   I had been so frustrated wanting and desiring those I'm close to get this gospel!  My older sisters have plastered her with religion through this whole thing (and if you want to see an already struggling person who has suffered from the loss through a tragic situation like she had, and participated in because of deep emotional and mental issues, blast a person with religion and watch the condemnation come on like a deep cloud of despair, to the point of wanting to do away with oneself)
That AWFUL religion !

Anyhow, she's hungry and open for more of this, seeing that this is the power of transformation for a new life, for a relationship with a wonderful Father, for PEACE of mind and heart, for SECURITY in the soul, for VALUE, like no relationship on this earth can given, and I

LOVE this LIFE we share!  I love that this gospel, and our Christ, is the hopeI love that Christ is the embodiment of truth that releases people from despair!

So, needless to say, I am tired, and I going to rest and sleep relieved for awhile.

This truly is where life has been this week.  Sherri, I pop on in a day or so and let you know what's up in the normal day-to-day stuff.

Mary, this is grace music to my ears! Freedom ... true freedom is so wonderful. And it most certainly impacts us in ways that go far beyond the surface. :)  Thanks so much for posting this, my dear lady.

Jim :)

      From what you emailed about:)

It's getting a little colder up here in Minnesota, but we haven't seen the white flakes, yet!  Dave and I are pretty happy about that.  There has been chances of snow, but it's missed us.  I haven't warmed my car up, yet, before I go to work on the weekends, but we've had some frost.

I've been looking for some new winter boots for about a month...in thrift stores, Penny's, Target, etc., and I'm happy to say that I found a pair at Walmart that I really liked and the price was right!   You know how it is with quality...well, I like to have quality winter gear, and I never thought I'd find a pair at Walmart, but I did, so I'm glad about that.

Once a year, about this time, we (the family) get together and make Lefse.   Jennifer, daughter, arranged for everyone to get together at Paul's house on Saturday night.  Working around schedules to do ANY of our get together's isn't easy anymore, so she blesses my heart that she got it all arranged.  The kids decided to do 'November' birthdays on that night, so we'll do those too

...and, it's been such a loooong time since Dave and I have been out to the cabin, so we're going to out there and sit by a warm cozy fire on Friday night and come back Saturday.

We didn't have ANY trick or treaters at our house on Halloween, although Dave was ready for them.  We ate the candy ourselves!  Of course, not all at once!   I DID spend a day that week making a Halloween costume for Maddie, granddaughter.  We spent a day at it.  She had wanted a 'candy cane' outfit that she saw at Target that she couldn't buy, so we made it ourselves.  She was so happy, and I was happy to see her happy.

Again....this is a fun way to connect...love this Sherri!

mclady mcfriend mcsis      i love hearin' from ya!    i absolutely LOVE your LOVE for Christ and HIS HOPE and CONFIDENCE that exudes from Him in and out from you!    we know with all assurance how none of it is found in any other.   only Christ Himself.

so sad about your sister.    my heart goes out to her and to you as you love on her and share true HOPE with her, as opposed to all the other non-hope she gets from others, herself included.  i pray and yearn with you and for her to know the same confidence, love and hope found in no other but Christ Himself.

so happy to hear that you finally found your winter boots!    we are still 'barefootin' and 'flip-floppin' around here.    it IS supposed to get down to the high 50s in the wee hours while we are all sleeping and totally missing it.  it warms up FAST enuff, as soon as that South Florida sun shows itself.  it is quickly back up to 80.  my ideal temps are 40s and 50s at night, high 50s and 60s day-time, but ... those are very rare visits around these here parts. when those temps come a visitin' ... i LOVE it!    we did actually have a WONDERFUL cooler season last year.  and it visited for quite a while.  soooooo reFRESHing!

what is:  Lefse??  and oh, by the way ... i apologize, for i have not gotten to that recipe for pumpkin chocolate chip muffins yet.  i am sure you found another one by now.    i have not done much on the computer at all this week so far.  but guess what!  one of our daughters brought us a wonderful pumpkin chocolate chip muffin from her workplace the other day!  it was soooooo GOOOOOOOD!    such a TREAT!

hey, have a great time at the cabin!  sounds soooo nice and cozy ... warming up in front of a toasty fire.  do you have hot chocolate, tea, coffee ... something special in front of the fire?

jim is up for work now, and i have to go to bed.    i fell asleep on the couch and woke up.  i must be off now.  so wonderful to hear from you!

Lefse is mashed potatoes put through a ricer and
rolled out paper thin then cooked on a griddle. it is
similar to a tortilla only made with potatoes
to eat one you spread them with butter sprinkle WHITE
sugar and roll them up. Very very good. Mary
and the kids will roll and fry up over 100 for us to
eat throughout the holidays

That was the Norwegian among you speaking   I don't share 'quite' the same love for lefse, he does,  but I'll happily make it, and eat a few, as long as we have TEAMWORK!

sounds delightful for a once or twice a year treat!

i love just about anything made with potatoes!    as long as it doesn't have too much VINEGAR!    i'm not a vinegar kinda gal.

hey, Jim's Mom was Norwegian!  100%!  his Dad was what his Dad called a 'mutt'.    honest!  from his own mouth!  a mutt!  (by mutt meaning ... a very mixed breed.)  anyway ... his Mom made a very vinegary potato salad.  it was great when it wasn't TOO vinegary.

your lefse sounds like a lot of work and time.  i see why it is such a special family time.

continued November/Autumn greetings to everyone

yes, as Jim was saying, concerning birthdays a week early is not bad at all!     early is better than late.  late is better than not at all.  right-on-time is awesome indeed!  ... however,  extremely RARE, if not damned near impossible for me to make, as my life seems to have it.

so Adam, thank you muchly for this 'early-notice'!    it is November, after all and this is a November thread, and McMary is a November girl!  an AUTUMN McLady!  my favorite time of year north of Florida!!       (in south Florida, WINTER is my favorite time of year!  )

hugs all around

There is a November birthday that I let slip by. Our brother Dave S. Yep. On November the 9th his earthly vessel turned one year older. Now, I'm not going to wish him a happy belated birthday ... rather I'm giving him an advance notice ONE YEAR AHEAD OF TIME!   Love you, bro!

Sherri!   I can relate!  We celebrated 3 birthdays on the night we made the Lefse, and that was damn near CRAZY!
(And by the way, I DID remember that Jim was Norwegian ( even though I had a moment that I forgot) because I remember a conversation we had about his parents/ or grandparents meeting at the port of Duluth on Lake Superior)

Birthday wishes from all of you are among those I treasure the most!    Thank you! I love you all!!!

"I'm giving him an advance notice ONE YEAR AHEAD OF TIME! "  <Jim

that's fuhhhhhnnny!       i guess that's what 'old' farts have to do  ...  do things as soon as they're thought of or else they are just G-O-N-E in a flash ... into oblivion and beyond!

mclady, i also forgot to mention that the vinegary potatoes that Jim's Mom used to make were German Potato Salad.     i think it was one of Jim's Dad's Mom's recipes.  you see how my wabbity twails go ... here there and everywhere.  the German Potato Salad had nothing to do with her being Norwegian which was what we were talking about earlier, but we were also talking potatoes, so that led me down the potato twail and .... well ... i just hippity hop all over the place.

Yes ... the German Potato Salad came from my other grandmother, the one with German ancestry (her maiden name was Leimbach). My mom really made it taste good. :)
