Just wanted to share something I thought was pretty cool.

I've been having discussions and sometimes heated debates with a guy at work for the last fifteen years about the existence of God. He WAS a self proclaimed agnostic and a "man of science".   Well over the last two years, his father passed, his wife left him for a period of time, his son accidently overdosed, then his sons girlfriend committed suicide.   Over the last three months out of the blue he started texting me scripture everyday to my surprise.   I would reply with thankyous and cools.   In one text he stated there was no way there could not be a God. He said all that has happened is for good and God somehow prepared him for these things. I was taken aback because we haven't spoken in awhile.   He said something happened about a year ago to convince him. He said he wants to tell me when i get back to work.   I cant wait to hear.

Here's the irony.   A couple of weeks ago I got into a discussion with a fellow coworker in the airforce reserves.   He goes to church every sunday and believes in asking forgiveness everyday all day and that we will be judged at the 'gates' of heaven on how well each of us did when Christ returns.   We debated for hours on forgiveness and Christs return and I felt like i was banging my head on the wall. It ended okay but i felt drained with really no life expressed.

I just find it cool and not too surprising of the differences between what the 'new believer' who texts me daily says and how much joy he shares in his new found beliefs along with seemingly no guilt or condemnation compared to the fear and guilt the other guy seems to express who finds it necessary to pray and ask forgiveness everyday and expects to be judged after the tribulation.

It's so apparent what religion does to some people compared to those who just believe and are free.

I guess It's not so ironic after all. What else could we expect from the religious based mindset of guilt and condemnation.

Thanks J.C.    Love Rick

Rick, this is beautiful!!    God's grace continues to amaze me in how it speaks something wonderful to those who were not seeking him, even to those who are bitterly opposing him. Thanks so much for posting this. :)

Love, Jim

Interesting Rick. I haven't been on the forum for some time and while writing an article on 1 John 1:9 and its abuse I decided to take a break and see what's been happening on the Shack. Yours was the first thing I read and it was not only an encouragement but a confirmation. It is absolutely amazing how much Christian "noise" has been posted on the web about this and everything else.
