Grace, Dignity and Value when you’re Mad as a
Hatter (and TV Shows that Make Me Cry)

If any of you are Dr.Who fans, have you seen Season
5, Episode 10, “Vincent and the Doctor”????
Netflix it now. Really, right now. Oh my God!
Vincent Van Gogh, as everyone knows, is crazy, mad
as a hatter crazy. And Dr. Who didn’t excuse it
away. He didn’t try to fix him. He just honored
Vincent amidst the crazy because they saw in him the
value Vincent could never know. The kindness in the
curator’s words…You expect it to fix everything, to
change, to alter perception and history. I won’t
tell you whether it does or not.

Coming off our conversation about Casey Anthony and
justice being in God’s hands…

I just think that, perhaps, there is so much we
don’t see. Even if we could see, if we knew the
reason why, how much would change?

When my children were little, on topics that were
difficult, I often answered their questions with
simple answers. I wasn’t hiding the truth; I gave
them as much as they could comprehend, as much as
they were able to handle, usually just as much as
they wanted, until the questions ceased. Generally,
while the questions varied and focused on this topic
or that, the real question boiled down to simple and
self-centered needs. The answers small children
generally seek is that they are safe, they are okay,
that we will stay with them, love them , care for
them, protect them, and play with them.

When we try to reason with God, when we hold court
on his motives and judge him holy or negligent, I
wonder if maybe that’s all we’re asking too? Are we
just asking childish questions in grownup clothes?

I wish I understood more. There has been so much
pain, but even if I could see motives and reasons
and the things that are hidden, I don’t know if
anything would change.

And at this point I’m just rambling, so I’ll just
stop.

Well, I can tell you that I appreciate your rambling. I love this:

I mean, this is the way we learned to reason with and judge all things, isn't it?

Well, I'm off for work in a few minutes, but I wanted to comment, my dear Becki!

Love, Jim

I loved that episode, how Vincent sees the colors that
nobody else can see!

Though a couple friends of mine absolutely loved Dr Who, I never really watched it. I guess I'm out of the loop on this.   However, I do appreciate the seeing what no one else can. :)

I am going to give Dr. Who a try.  I am curious now.  :)   I see it on Netflix from time to time and it always gets my attention, but not as much as others.  However, I really want to give it a try now.  :)

I enjoy what you write and share Becki!  :)

Be careful love! Jo got me hooked on it and I ended up
watching all five seasons. I don't even really like tv.

Friends back in high school introduced me. Until the
recent era of Doctor Who (2005-), I never got that
into it; I blame Afghanistan. I think the new Doctor
is the best one so far.
