Presently, I am in a transition phase of my life
looking for that next "real" job. So often i hear
Christians talk or preaching about knowing God's
perfect will for my life concerning job,
relationships, etc. And that if I'm not careful I
could miss his will.

There are many scriptures that indicate to me that
God does care and intervenes in our lives to lead us
in the right direction, but except for the obvious
things that are sin...most scriptures about God's
will seem to be just saying that God does live
through us.

I often wonder if the desires that i have for
anything good or Godly is a gift from him and that
there is no need to labor over this point.

I think it was Augustine or Aquinas, who said to
love God and do anything you want as long as it's
something Godly.

So anyway I've decided that I'm just going to do
what I want to do, even if I fail and or do what I
need to do just to provide an income for the family
and not get hung up on exactly what that job may be.

Jim, I did read your writing GOD'S WILL, BIBLICAL
INSTRUCTION, AND PASSIVITY...Excellent.

looking for that "real" job-I can relate to that. Just doing what you want sounds good.

But it is so restful & free to be done trying to find God's will in all these areas  & INSTEAD know we are in His will-Christ in us & us in Him

I liked what Jim said about finding God's will, it's like "trying to find the door INTO the room we are already in."

Good reminder Deb.

Yeah the whole doctrine of finding God's Will wreaks
of separation. But we ARE joined!

always looking for the thing that is god's will, we miss that he has placed us in his will ... we are in his will found safe and secure and forever more in the eternal one who is his son.

go in peace brother, secure and loved in him no matter what others may insist to convince you otherwise.  any failures and/or successes we experience in this world are simply that ... in this world.  there is no failure or success in god.  all is simply 'yea' and 'amen'.

love and hugs

Actually I believe it was Martin Luther who said "Love God and do what you want". He didn't qualify it with the "as long as it's Godly" non-sense and that was his whole point. Adding that to the quote brings us right back to keeping law, the law of what we deem as being "Godly".

that was great, chris.

what we deem as godly ... yeah ... that is a real religious entrapment isn't it?  it can be quite relative and ever changing ... like religions tend to be ... always splitting, breaking off, splintering into different re-creations of the same and/or totally different creations and/or any combination thereof.  but mostly what is evil and horrible about it, is how religion has neglected, abused, tortured, and killed so many over the centuries.  also created, encouraged and supported so many needless wars ... keeping soooo many generations of people and sooo very many individuals in absolute bondage and anguish with that mentality!!

grrrrrr ....

yes, i forgot to mention deb and adam, i very much enjoyed what you shared as well.

thanx for the encouragement dear james.

I think that God's will is simple. He died and left a will. A testament.
Life. Eternal life. On earth as it is in Heaven. So his will is simply to
live. And to live is Christ. All the things we do here and the
importance we insist on placing up on them can add up to a huge
distraction from keeping our eyes on Him. Namely disappointment,
feeling like a failure, focusing on what others think of us etc. I can't
see how all the things we do here in a puff of time (80 years or less)
really matter all that much. "All that counts is a new creation". "All
that counts is faith expressing itself in love." You can be (and do...)
these things wherever you are. Working at McDonalds or being a
brain surgeon.   Or dancing Salsa!

Jesus said, not wrote:
All those the Father gives me will come to me, and
whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven
not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will
of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but
raise them up at the last day.

-John 6:37-39, NIV

I always love how beautifully he says it here.
