I wonder if due to God's grace and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, if I really need to be overly concerned with what version I use? I tend to use the NKJV just because it was a gift to me, but I have some Bible teachers insisting on my using the KJV. Should I show them grace and use it, or should they show me grace in allowing me to use my gift?

Sunshine,
I don't think you need to be overly concerned about the version you read.  Of course, you cannot insist that others show you grace.  Nor is it right or mature for someone else to insist that you show them grace.  I think you are free to use whatever version you would like and perhaps you will have the opportunity to show your Bible teachers that your version is just as useable as theirs, which it is.

Hi Sunshine! I like what Tim said here.

There are many human concepts[vs. Spiritual] out and
about in church today that as you can see will serve
to bind you up from just enjoying the Christ who lives
in you. Live free and unto the Lord.

Welcome!

Adam

Thanks for the tips Tim and Adam. This place has lots of clues on how to live a life in Christ free of bondage. Now I need to learn how to serve Him in love instead of performance based religion. It really is about Him after all. Child-like simplicity seems like a good place to start. We tend to complicate our lives, when Jesus simply said, "Come". I think He probably prefers that we come just as we are, baggage and all, and then allow Him to shape and mold us. A do-it-yourself fix it kit never worked for me anyhow.

tim and adam ~ enjoyed your replies.

sunshine ~   WELCOM  grace and peace to you in the heart and mind given generously and freely to you in and by Christ Jesus!

i discover, treasure, and cherish much freedom and peace that comes in the knowing that we are the New Creation in Christ.  nothing broken, nothing needing to be fixed, nothing at all lacking in the always and forever NEW life that we are in Him.  the old life we once were solely identified with is what we have died to in Christ.  it is the old life that everyone and everything around us incessantly insists on convincing us that we are still bound to and by.

circumstances and situations can wreak havoc in our hearts and minds as we view them from the perspective of the reasoning of the world.  GOD has no such unrealistic expectations and delusions concerning any and all who are His.  we can be encouraged in who we really are in Him, knowing that anything and everything that insists we are otherwise is a LIE and/or delusion based on the LIE that we simply are not who we are in Him and that we are lacking in anything concerning that miraculous Life we  are and have been made.

His work and Life in us is GOOD and He is the Maintainer and Sustainer of all that He has made us in Him.  when we start from that foundational understanding, well ... our lives can become quite topsy turvy in this world.  we begin to see just how 'alien' we truly are in this world.    we realize with much more clarity how we simply do not 'belong' to this world.  we are from Another, and belong to Another, and we are Other.

He IS Love in you, and you can be rest assured that as long as you have been His, He has been working in and through and with you all along, even serving Him in ways you may never know about this side of forever, if forever even has any sides.

rejoice that you have no need to fret about any 'letting' or 'allowing' Him anything.  He is able and willing and brings all things concerning us about to His divine will and purpose.  He is the Author and Finisher ~  He is Eternal and has birthed us into Life Eternal now and forevermore.   the begin and end are swallowed up in the Eternal Life which we have from God in Christ Jesus Himself.

i suspect that perhaps there's no baggage in the New.    the baggage is in the old.   the more we realize who He has made us in Him, the less baggage we 'claim'.    of course, when we fall prey to the lies that convince us otherwise, we may play musical bags, trading one for another, etc.  it is refreshing to have the Body of Christ truly SUPPORT the members by reminding us of who we are and why we are.  encouraging and allowing for the putting down and out of the old unnecessary baggage, and any new baggage we may have acquired along the way.   we hope that is the main thing nurtured and garnered here on the Shack.

Wonderful, Sherri!!  This is such incredible encouragement of life in Christ. We need to hear these things from each other all the time.

IMO the KJV only crowd really isn't much different
than those in the Roman Catholic Church.

When I was a kid we would drive by the big new fancy
Roman Catholic Church on the way to our church....the
one that I was sure was the best church in town
Occasionally, as we passed bye my dad would say,
"There really are some believers in there."
