My daughter graduates today. She's my oldest, and I keep waiting for it to hit me. My wife keeps treating her birthday in August as if we aren't making a special trip to her college to see her. How is it that I know my wife's reaction better than I know my own? Anyways, it feels as if there just isn't enough time to feel it today, but I am very proud of what she has accomplished!

Love,
Bill

wow!  congrats bill!  that is awesome!   does it make you feel 'old'?  i know ... just 'proud' and happy for her is the main thing.     if only our emotions and our minds would get in sync sometimes.          and then there are those other times where we are much relieved that they don't always need each other the way we expect, hope or think.

anyway,  i hope you will discover the balance-level of comfort that will enable you personally to enjoy this milestone in your daughter's life with her.  it is weird, i know, but sometimes, the enjoyment, feelings, etc. can actually come AFTER the fact.  i have experienced that a LOT in my life.  but i have to admit, that it might just be because i tend to be slooooooow at everything.  i seem to tend to suffer from a syndrome of a lot of 'delayed reactions' and delayed responses.   no reflection on anyone else.  just my personal experiences.

okay, i will stop ...  i suppose i tend to be a little narcissistic-sounding when i start making all things about 'me' when i am just trying to 'relate'.

wordy wordy wordy ... blah blah blah ... all that just to say really:

   CONGRATS

i know you are proud of her and love her regardless of how you may or may not 'feel'.  being proud of her and loving her involve a lot of feelings we sometimes just think should 'feel' or 'look' some other way.  does that make sense?

love and hugs

Congrats Bill! Each of these milestones with our kids usually results in a "Huh,how did we get here?" moment. They are usually sweet with a little wonder and a sense of loss all rolled up together.. Where will your daughter be going to college?Lots of good schools up this way.

Dave,

Sorry. She has already chosen here in Georgia.
However, if you discover one that will give her a full
ride with a reputable program in experimental
psychology, I'm sure she will reconsider!
