Mary and I sometimes visit and talk over what is going on in the "world" vs the reality of what has been finished in us in Christ. This weekend our granddaughters came and spent the night with us.One of the youngest favorite toys we have is a fabric version of Noahs ark.she loves taking each of the animals out, making the sound they make(a sheep goes baaaa) and putting them back in.Each time making sure the animals and Noah are safely inside the confines of the ark.

Yesterday when Mary and i were talking, the topic of how insane the world feels at times. The the topic of the ark came up.Mary said "once the people and animals were safe in the ark,do you think they were still worried about being harmed by the flood or do you think they were instead rejoicing that they had been kept safe as God had promised?" I had never thought about that before, that even though they were not yet at the end of their journey, they were already safe and on their way, being able to rest and be at peace that  the promises God had made were true .That despite the storms raging outside they were kept safe inside Gods provision for them.

I said to Mary, " this is how we are right now in Christ,we are already safe in the boat,Christ, knowing the promises are true and unwavering. That it may look stormy and unsafe outside but the more he reveals himself to us as being already IN HIM that his promises of safety are unchangeable and true". Kind of a shocker to me,I am one that keeps looking out the window at the rain forgetting that I am already safe inside and dry.

Hello my dear brother!

I can relate to looking out that window at the rain and the storm so that the reality fades from view. Thanks for this encouragement! :)

Love, Jim

Dave, thanks for sharing this.

Yes, being able to REST despite the storms raging because He is keeping us safe!

bill, i send you hugs of support for the midst of the storms.

concerning the thread topic ... yeah, i do appreciate being able to watch the storms from the safety of being sheltered 'inside'.

there are definitely those times when the storms are soooo IN MY FACE, pressing and shoving, shaking and rattling, slapping and tossing me around ... well ... yeah i don't 'feel' so safe and sheltered then if ya know what i mean?    i know the feelings do not negate the facts and reality.  they are unavoidably a part of the reality in the midst of the storms, however temporary they may be.

i don't know how the minds of the people were on the ark, but i would imagine there were all kinds of feelings and wonderings going on in their heads, and perhaps between them.  it was a pretty remarkable, tragic, unimaginable, drastic and dramatic 'happening' and experience ... fill in the blanks with  whatever other adjectives we could come up with.    i suppose a lot of what went through their minds is left to our imagination, but i am curious to go back now and do some reading.    it has been a lonnnnnng time since i have read those accounts.

i vaguely remember some interesting things that happened when they finally landed dry.  for instance, didn't the daughters-in-law get noah drunk to have sex with him to continue the human race, and stuff like that.    ??  i can't even imagine what it would feel like to be the ONLY people on the planet!  and they didn't even have a clue how big the planet was at the time.

anyway ... you see where my mind goes, as usual.  wabbit!!

i don't know how safe we are 'in the world', really ... i know we all have stories and experiences of just how unsafe life can be and has been, as well as how safe we have and are despite other things.  those unsafe times are certainly times that remind us of just how safe we are NOT in the world, yet how safe we ARE in christ.  for he is the ONLY 'place' we ARE safe.  as you guys have said, it is certainly peace and rest 'in christ' in-the-midst of the world and certainly despite it.
