An acquaintance of mine commented that this message of freedom and life (that I keep gently sharing  with her) can't be right as so few Christians (as judged by websites and books I guess) have this understanding.

My thoughts were that we really don't know how many God has revealed this to; the world functions by appearances.
God is in control of this! He isn't taking a poll to decide what truth is or going by majority rules as the mind of man does.

Any other thoughts on this? I realize there isn't really an acceptable answer or comment to this mindset, as a new mind is needed, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Debi,

It might be helpful to your friend to point out that the myriad divisions of Christianity and even those other divisions found in other religions suggest that belief systems rarely follow along "majority rules". In fact, each new division is born because a minority felt they had a better understanding than the majority they left behind. Compared to the "majority" of the people in the world who don't believe in Christianity, Christians don't have it right, either. So, why should the numbers who agree or disagree influence our pursuit of truth in our faith and our lives?

Love,
Bill

Yeah Deb, Bill,

I certainly thought this through many years ago the same way. I was swayed by the very same idea of the "majority rules". I mean it plagues those who are in Him.We think why can't God reveal it to the masses?[THEN I WILL BELIEVE IT] Heh..maybe He is doing that very thing just not in the way we have been taught to expect.

Thanks for the input Adam and Bill.

Good point Bill. "So, why should the numbers who agree or disagree influence our pursuit of truth in our faith and our lives?"

numbers indeed!    man needs them to validate and justify himself.  (by 'man' i do mean that generically speaking, of course.  in other words, both male and female ... humankind)

thank god that jesus himself did not rely upon numbers of majority to validate, justify or prove himself.  we are in the BEST of company, are we not?

enjoyed this thread.  thanx for the stimulation of thought.
