this guy at work comes and talks to me every chance he gets about the universe and higher, more intelligent life forms. he argues how old the world is. he says if your not learning about space and universes and galaxies and....blah blah, your not expanding your mind. meaning me i guess. he even said he felt sorry for me for not caring about "space".

half of me wants to shake him till his head falls off. the other half just sits there quietly going yeah, yeah.  and the third half (ha ha), thinks, what is it to explore questions like other life? or space or dimensions.  the egyptian pyramids for example.  pulse waves from the moon. flying saucer drawings on pyramid walls.

i guess im asking, is there a problem with wondering these things, these physical things in todays time.  i mean God did some pretty miraculous physical things in the old testament to prove points or accomplish goals. parting of the red sea, the flood....etc.  should we or should we not occupy some of our time wondering about things like other life forms, how big is the universe, are there other earths with life? or "aliens" even? i dont usually give this much thought cause i REALLY dont care but i have to admit sometimes i wonder, should i?  thoughts

He surely did. Each one pointing to a greater, and the last, the accomplishment of Aliens, Holy Just and Pure, oh yeah, and very intelligent

Your buddy is talking to one every day!!!

How dare us have interests other than church activity. Sure I think it's cool to "expand your mind". Why not Rick? Then again I can see someone in Christ not very motivated to do so either...depends on your taste and preference doesnt it? If you see no point[which, personally i see no point in seeking alien life forms] in it thenI guess you wont be watching the learning Channel with him. IF you do..then , then you might leanr alot about the subject..could prove very fascinating..might be fun for Jesus in you to check out!

I love this attitude you have Adam, particularly the part in red.  This saying could be true about everything in our life:  it might be fun for Jesus in us to check things out.  *kewl*

Great questions, Rick ... and good discussion. Dave, I especially enjoyed how you wrote that Rick's buddy is talking to an alien every day. :)

Rick, I'm a big sci-fi fan so I'm quite aware of many of the latest theories and speculations (which sci-fi creates its stories around). Lots of big words and intelligent sounding arguments ... but also lots of assumptions and contradictions. What I've noticed about sci-fi is that despite the sense of higher wisdom and arrogance it's really about relationships, meeting new people and the thrill of exploration. If anything, my observations of modern science only proves how confused and desperate many people are.

One half of me thinks that God gave man science and art to keep him busy. The other half thinks that science is just the new tower of Babel. You know, something like, "If we can't reach heaven, where God lives, we'll just prove he doesn't exist." The third half of me thinks, "Who cares?"

I'm sure my three halves don't clear anything up, either.

Just to relate to that Bill..I'd say the first half of my life I would of said.."who cares", the next part of my life I would of said "it was the tower of Babel", the present part of my life is considering both..but now I have a new consideration..maybye God just created it to keep man busy!

I personally could care less about aliens, but I have always enjoyed learning about the astronauts...like I got to go to the Kennedy Space Station in Florida several years back and I loved the (true life) movie about Appollo 13.  But I think the reason I like those things because they are about the spirit in us to strive, to overcome, to explore, etc.  Anyhoo, I am leaning towards what Adam said about Jesus in you enjoying whatever.  It sounds to me, too, like your friend "feeling sorry for you"...is because he wants you to be like-minded with him so that he can validate himself.  Thank God we don't have to validate ourselves.  Jesus is my validation!!

Dave-Adam-Connie-Bill-Shannon-Jim. AWESOME,AWESOME,AWESOME,AWESOME,AWESOME,AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive had similar thoughts to what each of you said and I love that! You've all validated me .!

I guess great alien minds think alike.

Good to see/hear you again Bill.

On another note, I spoke with another co-worker today.  In a nutshell, the only time we get along is when we share Christ, which has been a handful of times over ten years. Other times we're either not talking or taking cheap shots at each other.  He approached me today and said he missed talking about "the word".  It couldn't have come at a better time.  I was feeling really uncomfortable working with him the last few days and held my tounge.  For him to approach me today with an open heart felt truly miraculous and lifted what felt like a huge weight off my shoulders.

The conversation made me think of certain conversations I've had with people over the years, particularly the "space guy".  It seems when its flesh vs. flesh the conversation seems to take a debate type stance but when its life with life, it seems so much more real, quenching, satisfying.  The third one, flesh vs. life seems to take the stance of the life side going "yeah, uh huh, yeah, ok.  In my experience anyway.  This sound familiar to anyone?

You know, sometimes you just can't say much more than that.  ;)

It should be obvious that the universe is so full of glory and mystery. It alone should speak of the unsearchable riches of Christ. The more we learn, the more we realize how little we understood. It nurtures that humility that wants to ooze from us.

Imagine if God had created a race (maybe human-ish, maybe completely different) in some other galaxy, far far away.......

Imagine that this 'alien' race was also created in His image, in perfection. Imagine if you will, for reasons only God could know, that this race never 'fell', as Adam did.

Now imagine that one from this perfect race came to Earth today. What do you think would happen?

We would be of one mind and one accord. When a perfect race meets a perfect race, you just have a perfect race
