I happened upon a Unitarian type approach verses a Trinitarian approach & basically it just sort of left me dry-Jesus was just a man-the messiah-a messenger of God, but just a man. I know lots of people like to have “doctrines” so everything is laid out, explained, formulated (and sometimes I sure can just get drawn back into that)  but the doctrine of the “trinity” tends to misrepresent what has happened & not stress Jesus as being the joining/union of God and man, like we have also become as the new creation.  I was reading various writings found under “trinity” and this amazing truth really "hit" me & I really appreciate what you wrote Jim; so I thought I'd share them :

"Jesus" didn't come down from heaven, but the WORD OF GOD (or THE SPIRIT OF GOD) came down and was joined together in union with the creation to save this creation …..Notice, it wasn't until the word became flesh that he was called "Jesus".  It was the EXPRESSION OF GOD that got joined together with the creation that gave God His Son. Not Jesus Christ, a creation of God, but the joining of the CREATOR with the CREATION….. The doctrine of the Trinity uses many of these same verses, but will never allow for what I just told you. I have had so many run-ins with those who hold to the Trinity teaching that just shake their heads at me and call me "heretic". :)

Yes, I never got this from the doctrinal explanation of the trinity-our UNION is real.

"How is it that if the doctrine of the Trinity is such a "foundational" teaching of Christianity that the majority of those who hold to the doctrine do not also hold to the reality of our union with God in Christ?"

Great question-it’s like the formula “almost” keeps you from seeing this.

"As being born in the flesh he became the perfect union between the creation brought into being through him and God himself. We CANNOT understand this union through any type of study or logic, but ONLY from being joined together with God through Christ."

"The words may testify of the Word but they do not explain Him. Only the Word of God, the same one that was in the beginning, put into your heart causes that miracle."

Thank you, you “heretic” for witnessing to this reality of our union with Him & to our miraculous Life & for your encouragement in all that you write along with the others on the shack!! I love reading old threads.

And we know that the Son of God has come, and has GIVEN US UNDERSTANDING, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20

"Truth is not the sum total of all true things, but is instead a person & His name is Jesus & He has become our LIFE."

i soooo LOVE this thread!  i so love especially:

"It was the EXPRESSION OF GOD that got joined together with the creation that gave God His Son. Not Jesus Christ, a creation of God, but the joining of the CREATOR with the CREATION…." <jim

thank you for this deb!  i love it!  my heart leaps within me on this!

one of my favorite tunes that my hubby wrote is about this very thing ... a wonderful little song about creation and creator joined in one!    fun harmonies ... just precious to my heart!
