just wondering if there is a difference?  haven't really thought about it for quite a while now.

serving the pleasure of others?  serving genuine needs?  serving ... what exactly??

perhaps the what isn't as important as the whom ... the person ... what the boss or whoever wants/needs/expects etc.  ??

focusing on either one of them ... either the what or the whom can be quite unnerving if you do not like and can not tolerate either or both.

it is a good thing to realize we serve neither, but one higher and far above all.  and yet service to him, in him, from him, for him, etc. IS service to others.

it all gets scrambled from there, doesn't it?  sighhhh  ....

we serve out of love for him and from him, with him, in him, because of him, etc.  love overshadows all else ... all the details and the dissecting and ... phew!  i get too lost in the details and yet i get sucked into them, by them, etc.  we need both the forest AND the trees don't we?  can't have a forest withOUT the trees.  i LOVE the forests!

well ... that's my chaotic thinking for today .  does anyone have any helpful focus for me?    any thoughts at all to add?  even more questions?

have a great weekend!

thinking while working in the kitchen i realized that every time i 'go there' with such questions as i did with this thread, i just get all bonkers in my head trying to figure things out from all different angles that just end up being really from the world's perspective of needing some answers, explanations, etc.

peace is renewed when i realize that there is really nothing required for us to figure out.  we know and are  found in the one whose heart originates genuine love and genuine service.  we know and are found in the one who is always pleasing to the father and has made us pleasing to the father as well.  being pleasing to god is not by any means synonymous with being pleasing to the heart and mind of the world.  there is such freedom in heart, mind and soul when being reminded of that.

the heart, mind, life and love of christ is always pleasing to the father.  it is in and with his heart, his mind, his life and his love that we reside.  so ... no worries.  we are always pleasing in his sight ... the apple of his eye ... his new creation ... his work ... fill in the blanks.  he is our all and everything.  we may forget from time to time, but ... he is faithful in reminding us, isn't he?

god IS served in his spirit IN us ... and all that that entails ... he works in us, through us, with us, etc.  WE are his workmanship IN christ jesus, prepared ahead of time the works that we will do.  we don't even always know what those 'works' are, and i don't think we have to worry about them.  the spirit of christ in us will always do the work the father desires.  i think we/i can worry about the details, etc.  and totally miss the reality of what IS and who we are, if you know what i mean?

i will have to ponder more,   but ... would   love  to hear thoughts from others as well.

Oh, but we do !! They are everything and more that you wrote in the previous sentences. Our works are believing, in spite of all that this temporal believes "works" are.

We have a wonderful sabbath of rest, to rest in the works that have been done in us.

Oftentimes it is when others come in and persuade, that perhaps there is not enough of a sufficiency in the work of rest that has been bestowed upon the children.

Personally I am staggered that faith is a work, worked in us and yet accounted as OUR righteousness. It seems so insufficient without a list of tasks.

Let them show me their faith by their tasks and I will show them my faith by my works

No, I don't. Not very computer literate here. Just about enough to visit  the Shack

Why do I keep forgetting this when trying to answer worldly or fleshy questions about God or faith, etc, that are as Jim says-bogus questions?

I think He does serve people through us and so we serve
people. However while we are their servants, they are not our
masters. Jesus whole recorded life was one of loving and
serving others, yet none were His master. It is service driven by
love. Of course because they are not our masters that service to
them doesn't often look like what they would prefer it to look
like. Take the story of Lazarus' death. They were upset that
Jesus didn't serve them in the way they thought He should have.
He let Lazarus die! But it was because God had a greater
service towards them in mind than simply healing Lazarus'
illness. The examples are countless.

Thanks RRaider!

The fleshly mind is indeed a picky thing, is it not? It it never satisfied, nor can it be. And yet we are driven by a life that is not of this world. Praise God for this!

I thought it was great!  I listened to 'power in weakness".  I laughed as Jim told the story of his youth group, because to me it was the story of his coming to really know the Life he has now.  I think you do a fantastic intro, Adam, and it really does sound like a talk show.    The intro music is pretty - heavenly even;) And as far as the points you both were making, all of which of course 'point to' Christ as our life; I love how God confounds the fleshly and logical mind of man!  It was neat to see God IN all things, to know His hand in the good and the bad, and to know that it's being worked together for our good!  I mean that's a GREAT, GOOD, and LOVING GOD!

I just really enjoyed it.   I love this weakness thing, it's so contrary to the power and estimation that is of the mind of the flesh.  I absolutely love knowing and living in union with a Life that is not of this world!

It was late, but I was yelling to Dave.  "Dave, you gotta listen to this!," but I think what he'd really like to do is tune in with you both sometime.

That's so great Mary!

You know, though it is some work involved for both
us to do, we both really, really enjoy it. In fact,
we have something new that will be put into the mix
here on our next show.[which is entitled : "Living
In The Moment with IAM"] Hope you and others will
tune in.

PS: I highly recommend "A Spirit of Fear". It
really, really encouraged me personally. It is a
great listen.
